I have always believed that kindness and the capacity for growth are among the most precious qualities a person can possess. My experiences throughout life have taught me the importance of kindness and the value of respecting different perspectives and beliefs. However, as I continue to grow and reflect on recent experiences, particularly those involving cognitive manipulation and digital authoritarianism, I have begun to question how we can maintain independent thought in this era, resist being defined by external forces, and truly live according to our own values.
This has led me to take a deeper interest in humanism. Rather than being confined to any particular ideology, humanism returns to a fundamental question: What choices can we make to become better human beings? It emphasizes reason, freedom, and the intrinsic value of the individual, while recognizing our capacity for kindness and personal development. I have come to realize that what truly matters is not the labels imposed upon us, but how we choose to understand the world and how we learn to respect differences while maintaining our own perspectives.
However, kindness does not mean weakness. When faced with oppression or unequal treatment, we must have the courage to stand up for ourselves and defend our rights and values rather than passively endure injustice or surrender to it. We can choose to treat others with kindness while also possessing the strength to protect ourselves. Only when kindness is accompanied by self-respect and the ability to establish boundaries can it become a meaningful force. Likewise, when facing potential threats, seeking appropriate legal protection is essential to safeguarding our well-being. The law is not only a foundation of social order but also an important instrument for protecting individual rights. It is through reasonable and lawful means that we can work toward realizing individual dignity and social justice.
At this stage of my life, I have come to appreciate the power of kindness more deeply and believe even more strongly in the importance of lifelong learning and growth. As I reflect on my core beliefs, I find that they can be summed up in one simple sentence: “I believe in good.” I believe in goodwill. I believe in progress. I believe in the value of every individual. And I believe that when people are willing to understand one another and consciously choose to become better human beings, the world can move toward a brighter future.
